Low Passive Intermodulation (PIM) Switching Systems and RF Interface Units (RFIU)

Walt Strickler | Giga-tronics -1

With the growing number of radio signals needed to be presented to wireless devices, managing interaction between these signals is increasingly important. For example, in a cell site today, a base station may be required to transmit and receive GSM, EDGE, W-CDMA, and LTE signals while in the presence of professional mobile radio, WiMAX, microwave links, and other RF/microwave signals. Historically, a great deal of attention was paid to minimizing intermodulation products resulting from non-linearities of active components within an RF system. The growing demands on wireless devices require that now even passive intermodulation (PIM) needs to be carefully considered.
