How to search for RF Switches

RF Switches are devices that route radio signals to a required signal path within a system. The key specifications to look for in an RF Switch are:

Configuration: The configuration of a rf switch specifies the number of ports to which a signal can be routed. For Example, an SP2T switch can route the signal to 2 different ports. RF Switches are available in many configurations – SPDT, SP3T, SP4T etc.

Type: There are four main types of switches:

1.     Pin Diode Switch

2.     Solid State Switch

3.     Electro-Mechanical Switch

4.     RFIC Switch

Frequency (MHz): This is the frequency upto which the RF Switch can operate while maintaining its electrical characteristics. On everything RF, Frequency is defined in MHz.

P1dB (dBm): This is the input power level that the Switch can handle, while maintaining its electrical characteristics.

Insertion Loss (dB): This is the measure of loss in the transmitted signal from one port to the next. This is measured in decibel (dB).

Isolation (dB): This is a measure of signal levels at the adjacent ports of the rf switch. It is measured in decibel (dB).

Package Type: There are a number of package options for microwave power dividers such as Module with Connector, Surface Mount, Die, Plug-In and Drop In.
