What are Variable Gain Amplifiers?
Variable Gain Amplifiers (VGAs) are RF amplifiers whose gain can be adjusted/varied based on voltage or current. Regular RF amplifiers usually have a fixed gain value. The gain of variable gain amplifiers can be controlled via voltage, current or by a digital control interface. The gain of Analog VGA’s can be controlled by Voltage/Current and the gain of digital VGA’s can be programmed or controlled by a digital panel.
Variable gain amplifiers (VGAs) are used in a variety of applications like remote sensing, ultrasound, radar, LIDAR, wireless communications, speech analysis, and cellphone receivers.
