NanoAvionics Selected by OQ Technology to Develop MACSAT Satellites to Provide 5G IoT Services

OQ Technology, a leading provider of end-to-end satellite 5G integrated solutions for asset and fleet management, has selected NanoAvionics to build its MACSAT satellite mission aiming to demonstrate Low Earth Orbit (LEO) 5G IoT services. NanoAvionics is an advanced small satellite bus manufacturer and mission integrator founded as a spin-off from Vilnius University, Lithuania in 2014. The company will build and test a 6U Nanosatellite Platform to host the MACSAT communication payload.

OQ Technology recently signed a 2 million euros contract with the European Space Agency as part of the Luxembourg National Space program (“LuxIMPULSE”) for the on-orbit pathfinder mission (MACSAT). The contract aims to foster Luxembourg and European space partnerships and involves the development of a 6U smallsat, an advanced flight payload and user terminals and their software stack.

The mission is planned for launch in 2021/2022 and will be a flagship for demonstrating advanced 5G IoT services in strategic satellite frequencies and for different end-customers.
