Sivers Semiconductors Introduces 2D 60 GHz Beamforming RF Module for Fixed Wireless Access

Sivers Semiconductors has developed a two-dimensional (2D) state-of-the-art 60 GHz Beamforming Radio Frequency (RF) Module that covers 14 GHz of bandwidth from 57 to 71 GHz. Two-dimensional beam steering offers both horizontally and vertically electrical steering of the antenna beam. This unique module helps customers to differentiate their products and is optimized for large-scale manufacturing without sacrificing competitive performance. The BFM06009 module gives users the flexibility and performance required for large deployments of 60 GHz FWA networks.

The BFM06009 features a 16+16 Tx/Rx array which can be used for beam steering with an Azimuth of ± 54 degrees and Elevation of ±25 degrees. It has a direct conversion I/Q transceiver with an IF bandwidth of 1.2 GHz. The module is based on the TRX BF/01 mmWave RFIC and has an integrated synthesizer that enables up to 256 QAM SC and a beam book for instant beam steering/forming. It has been developed for unlicensed 5G spectrum (802.11ad and 5G NR-U, TDD).

“With the exceptional combination of the market leading performance of our 60 GHz TRX BF/01 mmWave RFIC and this innovative 2D antenna design, we will be able to offer state-of-the-art performance with beam steering in both vertical and horizontal planes. This solution will be fundamental for FWA, to offer the flexibility and performance required for large deployments of 60 GHz fixed wireless access networks. The module enables deployments in the most diverse applications with the lowest cost of ownership making our customers products truly competitive.”, says Anders Storm, CEO of Sivers Semiconductors.

The module has been developed to fulfill generic as well as specific customer requirements with very positive feedback from lead customers. For existing 60 GHz customers, Sivers offers a unique solution to enable backward compatibility with the new module without needing to change the existing footprint. New customers will benefit from a smaller, less complex footprint optimized for large scale manufacturing.
