High Quality RF Signal Generator from 100 kHz up to 40 GHz

Berkeley Nucleonics has introduced a high-quality microwave or RF signal generator which features signal generation from 100 kHz up to 40 GHz. The new Model 865 RF / Microwave Signal Generator demonstrates high output power capability and fast switching speeds, making it ideal for radar receiver testing and other ultra-low phase noise applications.

The Model 865 is an ideal signal source for R&D engineering as well as for use in manufacturing or test environments. As needs arise, this versatile unit can be configured for a broad range of uses (for example, as a substitution for a malfunctioning LO or clock). With ultra-low phase noise and low spurious emissions, the signal purity is second to none. The SSB phase noise at 1 GHz carrier frequency and 10 Hz offset is -87 dBc/Hz. With the low noise option, the phase noise is even better at -100 dBc/Hz. Output harmonic levels are below -40 dBc. Non-harmonic spurious levels are below -90 dBc. With such excellent signal purity, the Model 865 offers the purest signal for any user’s application.

The Signal Generator series is capable of delivering high output power and has a wide power setting range. The standard unit provides adjustable output power up to +25 dBm. Extended power range options offer -70 dBm to +10 dBm, -90 dBm to +20 dBm or -120 dBm to +25 dBm. With these flexible choices, the Model 865 can be configured to your specific needs. The model also features an incredibly fast switching speed, with the standard unit having a 200 µs switching time. With the fast switching option, this value is down to 20 µs. Its fast frequency switching speed and wide power setting range make it an ideal signal generator choice.

Adding a touch-based display is very important for a unit of this caliber. While not a necessity, it does provide a powerful way to control the signal generator. The touch-display is spot on and gives all the control needed. With the touch-display, the unit be easily configured and operated.

The weight of the Model 865 is only 6 lbs with a very small size [4.21 in H x 6.77 in W x 11.42 in L]. Its portable size eases installation and relocation. Adding an external battery module enables operation of the model when access to ac power is limited or unavailable. Having an external battery module can be a life-saver, providing continuous operation when power conditions are unstable. The Model 865 can be controlled remotely via Ethernet or USB interfaces. GPIB control is also available as an option.
