Remcom Adds Geometry Caching in Wireless InSite for Expedited Sequential Simulations

EM simulation and wireless propagation software developer, Remcom, has announced geometry caching and other processing optimizations in its Wireless InSite 3D Wireless Prediction software. Wireless InSite’s X3D Propagation Model automatically caches processed geometry for later use, dramatically reducing run times for all subsequent simulations.

Wireless InSite is a suite of ray-tracing models and high-fidelity EM solvers for the analysis of site-specific radio wave propagation and wireless communication systems. The RF propagation software provides efficient and accurate predictions of EM propagation and communication channel characteristics in complex urban, indoor, rural and mixed path environments. Wireless InSite’s X3D Propagation Model ray model was developed by Remcom to provide a highly accurate, full 3D propagation model capable of running on a graphics processing unit (GPU) and using multi-threading for fast runtimes. This model also uses Remcom’s depth-first and exact path algorithms to overcome some of the shortcomings of the traditional shooting and bouncing ray method.

With the new update, Wireless InSite will now determine when a project's geometry has not changed and will reuse the initial cached file for future X3D runs, eliminating the need to repeat the processing step. Geometry caching is particularly beneficial for applications requiring repeated simulations within the same scene, such as with 5G small cell investigations, or when returning to a project that was run at an earlier time.

In addition to caching, new optimizations enable very large, complex scenes to be processed in a fraction of the time compared to previous releases. When running in GPU mode, these optimizations enable up to an 80% reduction in geometry processing times for urban and rural scenes and scenarios with large numbers of facets.
