R&S Test Platform Achieves 5G NR Protocol Conformance Validation for 41 Tests

Rohde & Schwarz has announced that they have carried out 41 different 5G NR protocol conformance test cases with the new R&S CMX500 radio communication tester. Defined by 3GPP, in different FR1 and LTE band combinations, all of the test cases have been accepted by the Global Certification Forum (GCF). By adding the R&S CMX500 to their existing LTE test setups, accredited test houses, cell phone and chipset manufacturers can now get a smooth upgrade path from LTE to 5G NR testing.

The 5G NR protocol conformance tests were presented at GCF’s Conformance Agreement Group (CAG) meeting 59. These tests are vital for next generation mobile communication technology. This is because mobile network operators worldwide rely on the certification schemes of the GCF and PTCRB certification forum for mobile devices in their networks.

Rohde & Schwarz has been a one-stop solutions supplier for conformance and operator acceptance testing from 2G through LTE. The new R&S CMX500 adds 5G NR signaling and RF testing by measuring the RF parameters of 5G NR transmissions and performing protocol tests. As most network operators will implement 5G NR as an extension of an LTE mobile network, the CMX500 can be seamlessly integrated into existing LTE test environments, yet it is also ideal for 5G NR testing in standalone (SA) mode.

Consequently, users who already have the well-established R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester or the CMWflexx test system can continue to use them for LTE measurements. To perform tests on 5G NR signals, they only need an R&S CMX500 as an extension box.
