Qualcomm Performs Wi-Fi 6E OTA Testing Using 6 GHz Spectrum for Enhanced Wireless Connectivity

Qualcomm Technologies has showcased its Wi-Fi 6 technology prowess with a landmark over-the-air demonstration of Wi-Fi 6E operation using the 6 GHz spectrum. The demonstration used Qualcomm's FastConnect mobile connectivity subsystem and the Qualcomm Networking Pro Series Wi-Fi Access Point platforms. Achieved using next-generation commercial products, this Wi-Fi 6E demonstration underscores Qualcomm Technologies’ readiness to extend its successful Wi-Fi 6 portfolio into the 6 GHz band for a transformative Wi-Fi 6E performance, pending regulatory approval. 

This new technology is designed to enable massive new wireless capacity for the next generation of high bandwidth wireless connectivity. By supporting numerous 160 MHz channels, advanced modulation techniques, and the opportunity to extend highly differentiated end-to-end Wi-Fi 6 feature implementations, Qualcomm Technologies is primed to deliver powerful, reliable and immersive Wi-Fi 6E experiences for the next generation, supporting parallel evolution and leadership in the transition to 5G.

The demonstration of Wi-Fi 6E readiness builds upon the significant adoption of commercially available Wi-Fi 6 devices based on the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform. The latest FastConnect 6800 subsystem is capable of delivering a new class of Wi-Fi speed (approaching 1.8 Gbps), reliability and responsiveness, even in densely congested environments. The FastConnect 6800 subsystem reflects Qualcomm Technologies’ mobile expertise and continuing core R&D investment, extending beyond the minimum certification requirements. With support for hallmark features such as uplink and downlink MU-MIMO (supporting up to 8 stream scenarios), OFDMA and 1024 QAM extended across 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, and unique latency reducing optimizations. The FastConnect 6800 subsystem addresses many of today’s most daunting mobile connectivity challenges and creates new opportunities. Extending the technology leadership into the 6 GHz band can open the door for mobile speeds in excess of 3 Gbps with the goal of reliable and consistent performance and low latency for the next generation of devices and experiences.
