The Mini Micro Data Link System (M2DLS) from Commtact is an Advanced Single Unit Digital Data Link System designed for micro and small size platforms which are sensitive to Size, Weight and Power (SWaP). It uses open architecture and software defined radios (SDR) to enable full duplex wideband, digital link, error correction techniques and high-rate communication in the Uplink and Downlink channels. The system supports up to six antennas simultaneously for multi-coverage support and has a maximum range of 60 Km. The M2DLS combines proven technologies and standards with advanced algorithms, to provide reliability and high performance, for the harshest conditions.
The M2DLS provides full duplex digital communication. It operates within the S/C-band and uses Gaussian-shaped Minimum Shift Keying (GMSK) digital modulation due to its constant envelope characteristic. This allows the use of efficient power amplifiers which substantially reduces aircraft power consumption. The power consumption reduction is a critical factor for tactical unmanned platforms which are limited in power budget and provides high Data link performance with high fade margin. It requires a DC supply of 9 - 36 V and draws 10 – 12 W of power. The data link features an RS-232 interface for external time input, RS-422, Rs-232 interface and 2xEthernet 10/1000 Base-T for IP based data sources. Its power transmission ranges from 0.25 to 1 W.
The M2DLS is available in a module that measures 61 x 52 x 20 mm and is suitable for airborne data terminal or ground data terminal system for unmanned ground vehicles, small drone UAS, sensors and other platforms. It can downlink real-time video images, LAN, serial data and information from most available sensors.
