The LTC5597 from Analog Devices is an RMS Power Detector that operates over a wide bandwidth from 100 MHz to 70 GHz. The DC output voltage of the detector is an accurate representation of the average signal power applied to the RF input of the device. The response is linear-in-dB with a 28.5 mV/dB logarithmic slope and over 35 dB dynamic range with an accuracy of ±1dB. The detector is particularly well suited for measurement of waveforms with a crest factor (CF) as high as 12 dB, and waveforms that exhibit a significant variation of the crest factor during measurements. This device requires a supply voltage of 3.3 V and consumes 33 mA.

To achieve higher accuracy and lower output ripple, the averaging bandwidth can be externally adjusted by a capacitor connected between the FLTR and OUT pins. The enable interface switches the device between active measurement mode and a low power shutdown mode. It is available in a 2 x 2 mm plastic DFN8 package and is suitable for a wide range of applications, such as point-to-point microwave links, Satcom, military radios, 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi, wireless networks, instrumentation, and power control.
