What is Antenna Measurement System?

OTA antenna measurement system is a platform/environment used to perform over-the-air (OTA) testing to assess the performance of an embedded (integrated) antenna of the wireless device, including the MIMO device. This antenna measurement system consists of a test chamber and DUT turntable and utilizes test & measuring instruments to conduct OTA testing.

OTA antenna measurement systems allow the assessment of antenna performance in a wireless device by measuring parameters such as antenna efficiency, beamwidth, directivity, linear/circular/cross-polarization, radiation pattern, EIRP, EIS, TIS, TIRP, gain, sidelobe levels, etc. They support various test methods such as DFF (direct far field), CATR, multiprobe, and nearfield/spherical test methods. Also, they may use one or more antenna(s)/probe(s) for testing.

OTA antenna measurement systems are ideal environment for a variety of applications, including antenna characterization of wireless devices (including multi-antenna (MIMO) devices), radar validation, interference testing, product development testing & conformance testing of wireless devices, traditional passive antenna measurements, etc.

Important parameters when looking for OTA Antenna Measurement System:

  • Operating Frequency: It represents the useable frequency range of the antenna measurement system.
  • No. of Antennas/Probes: Represents the number of antennas/probes that the system features.
  • DUT Weight: It is the maximum DUT (Device Under Test) weight that the system can support.
  • Measurement type: Represents the types of measurement that the OTA antenna measurement system can support, for example, antenna efficiency, beamwidth, directivity, EIRP, etc.
