What are RF Delay Lines?

A delay line is a device that delays the input signal by a certain amount of time. Delay Lines are used in a number of applications like radars, communication challen simulation, FM signal generation, signal processing etc. When looking for a RF Delay line one must review the following specifications:

Frequency: This is the frequency of interest at which you require a time delay. Most delay lines are optimized for a specific frequency range.

Dalay: This is the amount of delay that is provided by the delay line. Delays are usually in the micro to nano secon range.

Insertion Loss (dB): This is the loss in amplitude of the signal after it is delayed by the delay line.

Power Level: This is the power level that the delay line can handle. It is important to choose a delay line that can handle a power level higher that what will be used in your RF system.
