GPS/GNSS Antenna

GPS/GNSS antenna are antennas that are designed to receive radio waves from GPS/GNSS satellite constellations, which are used by GPS/GNSS receiver processing unit to accurately provide location and timing data of the receiver. These antennas are usually compatible with multiple constellations, which means they can receive signals from various satellite constellations (for instance GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, NavIC, etc.)

GPS/GNSS antennas are available in both active and passive configurations. Passive antennas consist of a standalone RF receiving element and require no external power supply to operate while active antennas contain an additional electronic circuit – like a low-noise amplifier – and require an external power supply. Active GNSS antennas usually provide better accuracy and reception range compared to their passive counterpart.

GPS/GNSS antennas are ideal for use in asset tracking, navigation devices, vehicle and fleet tracking, handheld devices, seismic recording instruments, oil & gas industries, military & security, mining equipment, LBS & M2M applications, telematics/on-board diagnostics (OBD) trackers, wearable - fitness trackers, automotive, marine, agriculture field, etc.

Important Parameters when Looking for GPS/GNSS Antennas:

  • Constellation: It is the satellite constellation that the antenna supports.
  • Frequency Band: Represents the frequency bands supported by the GPS/GNSS antenna (L1, L5, G1, etc.)
  • Power Supply: Determine if the antenna is active or passive i.e., if the antenna requires an external power supply to operate.
  • Noise Figure: GPS/GNSS signals are highly susceptible to noise, hence a low noise figure is desirable to reduce any loss of data.
