What are RPMA Modules?
An RPMA (Random Phase Multiple Access) module is a low power wireless module that operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency and is optimized for IoT Applications. RPMA Technology offers features like low power consumption, stand-alone broadcast channel for rapid firmware updates, excellent in-building range and AES 128-bit security encryption for a variety of IoT applications. RPMA technology supports download speeds of 31 kb/s and upload speeds of 15.6 kb/s. It is similar to NB-IoT and LTE-CAT M1 technologies, however can operate in the globally unlicensed 2.4 GHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) band. This allows RPMA modules to serve applications around the world, providing the scale and cost benefits that enable customers to profitably bring IoT solutions to market.
RPMA modules have an excellent in-building range and feature battery lifetimes of 10+ years on a single charge, depending on the use case. This makes the modules ideal for devices that need to be positioned in remote locations or difficult to reach spaces and that are not attached to the power grid.
Important parameters when looking for an RPMA Module:
Data Rate: This is the maximum data rate at which the RPMA module can transmit and receive data.
Receiver Sensitivity: Receiver sensitivity is the measure of the minimum signal strength the RPMA module can detect.
Current Consumption: RPMA modules consume very little power and can last for years on a single battery/charge. RPMA modules have significantly different power consumption levels when they are in transmit/receive mode and when they are in idle/sleep mode.
