The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) of Vietnam plans to allocate the 700 MHz and 1800 MHz band for 5G deployment. They also intend to auction the 24.25 GHz to 27.5 GHz (n258) frequency bands for 5G use in 2021. The MIC has also auctioned the 2.6 GHz (n41) band in the country but it is currently being used to provide 4G services and will be used for 5G purposes in the future.

Vietnamese firms such as Viettel, FPT and Vingroup have joined the 'Make in Vietnam' strategy of producing 5G chipsets in the country.

Viettle plans to introduce 5G services in 2020 using software and equipment developed by the company in Vietnam. In January 2020, a video call conference was conducted using 5G connection on a gNodeB transceiver (by Viettle) demonstrating that Vietnam has successfully implemented 5G network.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese wireless operator MobiFone, which got a year 5G trial license from MIC in 2019, has also successfully completed its 5G trials in four cities - Hanoi, Da Nang, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City.
