Qorvo Introduces 5 GHz Front End Modules for Wi-Fi 6 Home Mesh Networks

Qorvo, a leading provider of innovative RF solutions that connect the world, is enabling the rapid development of products used in tri-band mesh architectures for home Wi-Fi. The company introduced two new 5 GHz front-end modules (FEMs) that integrate a high-frequency bulk acoustic wave (BAW) filter. Combining a powerful amplifier and filter in a single module reduces board size and simplifies the task of Wi-Fi OEM designers in bringing home networking solutions to market faster.

The QPF7551 and QPF7552 integrated FEMs (iFEMs), feature Qorvo's unique bandBoost filter technology, which enables consumers to fully enjoy the speed advantages of mesh home networks that broadcast concurrently on three different channels. Qorvo bandBoost maximizes capacity and range by boosting band isolation in distributed Wi-Fi 6 systems.

Key features of QPF7551:

  • QPF7551 integrates a 5 GHz power amplifier (PA), UNII1- 2a bandBoost BAW filter, single pole two throw switch (SP2T), and bypassable low noise amplifier (LNA) into a single device.
  • The filter has integrated die level filtering for 2nd and 3rd harmonics, as well as 2.4 GHz rejection for DBDC operation, which is included.
  • Receive path matches the optimal technologies to maximize Rx sensitivity through noise figure performance that is consistent over a wider variety of conditions.
  • For application feedback, a DC power detector is integrated into the package providing a proportional voltage for given output power from the transmit path.

Key features of QPF7552:

  • QPF7552 is an integrated high power front end module (iFEM) designed for Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) systems
  • This iFEM integrates bandBoost technology to create an easier to use and extremely compact solution for Wi-Fi tri-band applications where operating in two radios simultaneously within the 5GHz frequency band is needed.
  • Receive path matches the optimal technologies to maximize Rx sensitivity through noise figure performance that is consistent over a wider variety of conditions.
  • For application feedback, a DC power detector is integrated into the package providing a proportional voltage for given output power from the transmit path.

The modules reduce board size by as much as 30 percent, resulting in more compact routers and extenders throughout the home network without compromising performance.
