Sequans to Showcase its 4G/5G & IoT Connectivity Solutions at MWC 2021

Sequans to Showcase its 4G/5G & IoT Connectivity Solutions at MWC 2021

Sequans Communications, a 4G LTE / 5G chipmaker and provider of single-mode LTE chipset solutions announced that it will participate in Mobile World Congress 2021 (MWC21) with a physical booth as well as a virtual online presence. The GSMA is organizing MWC21 to take place in Barcelona from June 28 to July 1 as a fully hybrid event, so that participants can connect in person or online. Sequans will showcase its LTE-M/NB-IoT module based on a second-generation Monarch 2 chipset, Calliope 2 – LTE Cat 1 platform, and Cassiopeia - CBRS module.

Monarch 2

Sequans is excited to see Monarch 2 finding its way into some truly innovative IoT applications in metering, healthcare, smart home, and environmental monitoring. Monarch 2 has low power consumption, enabling the ultra-long battery life that is essential for IoT devices. It also operates on ultra-low voltage, down to 2.2 volts, by allowing for the use of standard, low-cost batteries. Monarch 2 has already obtained regulatory certifications, including PTCRB and GCF, in the USA, Europe, and Japan. Tier-1 carrier certifications in the USA and Japan are ongoing, along with regulatory certifications for Australia and UK.

Monarch 2 is integrated with EAL5+ secure enclave for integrated SIM, something that will have a profound impact on enabling massive IoT applications. Its iSIM capability has been proven with leading operators and is being eagerly adopted for IoT applications of all kinds, including smart utility meters, smart home apps, healthcare solutions, and numerous types of tracking, sensing, and monitoring applications.

Calliope 2

Calliope 2 is a 5G-compliant single-chip LTE Cat 1 module that is designed for cost-effective support of IoT applications that require VoLTE and a data rate higher than 100 Kbps including wearables and smart city/smart home IoT devices. Calliope 2 user application software and interfaces are compatible with Sequans’ Monarch 2 LTE-M/NB-IoT platform, allowing easy migration among Cat 1, LTE-M, and NB-IoT massive IoT technologies.

CBRS

CBRS networks such as Cassiopeia CB410L/CB610L, are currently being adopted by education institutions for remote learning applications, and by others for industrial M2M applications and broadband consumer applications. The CBRS modules are designed to support the easy deployment of massive IoT on private LTE CBRS networks.

Industry leaders

Renesas, Microchip, and NXP have all chosen to partner with Sequans and are using their technology to enhance their product offerings. These integrated MCU+Sequans solutions offer customers fast time-to-market and scalability, not to mention support from some of the biggest names in IoT.

In the most recent partner news, Renesas launched its first LTE Cat M1 module (RYZ014A) for massive IoT applications based on Sequans Monarch. They are offering it to their customers as a cost-effective and powerful solution for IoT applications in metering, smart home, infrastructure, and industrial markets. Earlier in the year, Renesas announced they are also licensing Sequans’s 5G technology, Taurus, and second-generation Cat 1 technology, Calliope 2. The collaboration between Sequans and its MCU partners is benefitting the entire IoT ecosystem, providing tangible value to IoT customers everywhere.
