Antenova Introduces New Active GNSS Antenna for GPS, BeiDou, Galileo, GLONASS Constellations

Antenova has introduced a new, surface mount device (SMD) active antenna for multi-constellation GNSS Band 1 (GPSBeiDouGalileoGLONASS). The Active GNSS Antenna combines an antenna, antenna front-end (an LNA, SAW) and matching network all in a single module. Antenova has developed this antenna to provide excellent omnidirectional performance (compared with a ceramic patch antenna) in an ultra-compact form. Measuring just 7.0 x 7.0 x 0.9 mm, it is ultra-compact and can be placed on the edge of the PCB.

A match for the ceramic patch

The Active GNSS Antenna offers an excellent alternative to ceramic patches, performing well across a number of parameters and in various applications. It’s more omnidirectional in nature, too, making it a better choice for handhelds, asset trackers, and even telematics equipment. Plus, it doesn’t need to be placed right in the center of your circuit board, as a ceramic patch antenna would.

Consumes less power, tracks more satellites

The Active GNSS Antenna consumes less power than an equivalent, ceramic patch with a high gain LNA. Furthermore, a patch in an application that is not always going to be horizontal (i.e., a patch facing the sky), will not be able to see as many satellites, and therefore be less accurate, than the Active GNSS antenna.

Band rejection for superior performance

Equipped with a built-in filter, Active GNSS Antenna is designed as a standard to reject LTE, Cellular, GSM, WCDMA, WLAN, Bluetooth, WiMAX and LTE2600 bands. Tested and designed by our integration and application specialists, the Active GNSS Antenna comes ready to perform, whatever your application.

The all-in-one front end that offers it all

Combining the entire RF front-end and antenna in one, easy-to-integrate package, the Active GNSS Antenna reduces the bill of materials, simplifies design and accelerates time to market. With an onboard matching circuit, it offers a robust, reliable design all while saving valuable time and accelerating your time to market. Furthermore, the Active GNSS Antenna is available in tape-and-reel packaging, minimizing manufacturing complexity, reducing the bill of materials and, ultimately, lowering inventory costs.

Benefits of the Active GNSS Antenna:

  • Comparable performance to a ceramic patch antenna, and at a fraction of the cost.
  • Simplifies design-in process, minimizes bill of materials, reference design and evaluation kit available for new designs.
  • Typically lower power consumption than an equivalent small active patch antenna.
  • Easily integrates into products with cellular modems.
  • A great choice for wearables, handhelds, drones, asset trackers and other battery-powered devices.

The Active GNSS Antenna is now available in production quantities.
