ReliaSat Launches High-Performance Fixed & Programmble Frequency Synthesizers from 8 to 16 GHz

ReliaSat, a leading designer in the satellite communications industry has developed two frequency synthesizers: a fixed frequency synthesizer from 8 - 16 GHz and a programmable frequency synthesizer from 8 - 16 GHz. The fixed frequency synthesizer is specified by the customers at the point of ordering while the programmable version allows remote programmability via the UART interface.

The two devices were developed by engineers at ReliaSat when they faced challenges while trying to procure high-frequency synthesizers that fulfilled their sub-system specifications. Microwave frequency synthesizers that ReliaSat typically needs, have a very long lead time which causes a bottleneck in the production of their satellite communication products.

To overcome this challenge, Ali Dagdeviren, the Engineering Team Leader of ReliaSat, undertook the task upon himself to design a family of frequency synthesizers that suited ReliaSat’s needs, giving greater flexibility and availability of key components to the business. ReliaSat is now making their new frequency synthesizers available for sale to the industry, as they fill a vital gap in the market and will hopefully enable other businesses to develop products quicker.

The K-SYN-0816 is a low-phase noise, fixed frequency band Microwave Frequency Synthesizer that can be designed to operate from 8-16 GHz. It has a phase noise of -103 dBm/Hz at a 10 kHz offset and has spurious levels of less than -80 dBc and harmonics of -25 dBc. It is ideal for satellite communication applications. The fixed frequency synthesizer is available in a compact surface mount package that measures 25.4 mm x 25.4 mm x 6.35 mm.

Both the products are housed in a compact, surface-mount package, making them simple to fit and integrate into RF devices and modules, and are designed and manufactured with high-quality materials. Their ability to seamlessly integrate with RF devices along with excellent spurious and harmonic suppression makes them ideal for applications such as satellite communications, radar, mobile communications, and 5G wireless systems.
