RF Electronics Introduces Portable Shielded Test Setup to Test Multiple Wireless Devices Up to 12 GHz

RF Electronics, a designer and manufacturer of RF/ Microwave test products, has developed a full turnkey RF shielded VT test bed (HDRF-3699 with 20U 19-inch rack), a standalone solution that is designed to test multiple WLAN, wireless devices, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be, bluetooth, RFID, 3G, LTE, and 5G devices over the frequency range from 20 MHz to 12 GHz. This portable platform allows users to move the test bed around to different locations, providing more flexibility for test and measurement operations.

This multi-Device Under Test (DUT) test bed is a great way to effectively utilize the limited real estate space by eliminating the need to test devices in separate RF shield rooms. It can easily house standard off-the-shelf temperature chambers i.e. TestEquity TE-107 or Espec SH-242 using a built-in sliding tray and supports extreme temperature testing of the DUT.

The HDRF-3699 shield box is equipped with necessary I/O and power interface ports on a portable platform to connect multiple devices, offering a cost-effective alternative to standard testing rooms. The I/O ports are installed on the ceiling of the test setup to avoid damage during relocation. Dedicated power outlets are available for each device i.e. temperature chamber, wireless devices along with pipe penetration for water outlet. This provides a more organized connection within the test bed without causing complications during testing.

This test bed is also well-shielded to prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI) from degrading the signal test performance. It consists of thick absorbing foam that deadens standing waves and reflections, and includes shielded power filters for blocking all undesirable wireless signals. The HDRF-3699 provides more than 130 dB of isolation (from 20 MHz all the way up to 1 GHz) and 90 dB (at 18 GHz). The box has a scratch proof coat and elegant stainless steel finish with integrated cut-off waveguide air vents.

This test bed requires an AC supply from 110 V to 230 V (50/60 Hz) with a supply current of 16 or 32 A for the temperature chamber. Temperature of the test bed is regulated using an active cooling/ventilation with powerful exhaust fan with speed regulator. It also integrates finger protection board for enhanced safety and caster wheels for easy movement of the platform to different locations.

The HDRF-1699 is connected with a 20U rack that is installed above the shield box to facilitate easy installation of additional components (e.g. power meters) in a vertical setup. All of these result in an efficient test chamber that provides a direct and convenient replacement to RF shield rooms for various wireless testing applications.
