Instrumentation baluns are used to test differential devices with single ended test equipment, but they have long been limited to below 20 GHz in frequency. The BAL-0036 is a broadband isolation balun that operates from 300 kHz to 36 GHz. This balanced to unbalanced transformer has a 1:2 impedance ratio (50 Ohms unbalanced, 100 Ohms differential/50 Ohms balanced port). This balun can also be used back-to-back for extending VNA or time domain test setups. Two baluns can be placed back to back without creating an insertion loss ripple or time domain echo effects. You can learn more about the Problem with Back to Back Baluns and the Solution to Back to Back Baluns on the Marki Microwave blog.
