The R&S ZN-Z86X from Rohde & Schwarz is a Switch Matrix that operates from 100 MHz to 26.5 GHz. It is designed and optimized for Rohde & Schwarz vector network analyzers and offers a comprehensive, cost-effective solution for simple to complex measurement tasks on multiport or multiple devices. This switch matrix has an option for 12 or 24 test ports and can be used on a 2/4 port VNA by repositioning the RF links to the device's front panel. It allows users to utilize the SP4T relays and DP6T relay modules independently which reduces insertion loss and also allows attenuators, amplifiers and/or couplers to be inserted for more advanced applications. This switch matrix can be cascaded to increase the test port counts.

The R&S ZN-Z86X comes with features such as a full crossbar, hardware triggering, automatic test port assignment, easy adaptation, and complementary R&S®ZN-Z8X toolbox software. The hardware trigger function allows automation via up to 2048 user-defined test sequences. It also utilizes the R&S®ZN-Z8X toolbox software which helps users to get started, device monitoring, firmware updates, and manual switching of defined routes to the connected switch matrix. This matrix uses a convenient switch control graphical user interface (GUI) and supports remote control via LAN, USB, BNC trigger, or an optional dedicated digital interface.

This switch matrix has a switching time of 5 ms on LAN and less than 200 µs on direct control. It provides an isolation of more than 70 dB and has an insertion loss of less than 12 dB (18 to 26.5 GHz). The R&S ZN-Z86X is available in an enclosure that measures 459.2 x 149.2 x 352.2 mm and has 2.92 mm (female) connectors. It requires an AC supply from 100 to 240 V and consumes less than 1.7 A of current.
