5G Frequency Spectrum in Colombia

The Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications (MinTIC) of Colombia is expected to auction 700 MHz, 1.9 GHz, 2.5 GHz, 3.5 GHz and 3.6 GHz bands between 2021-2022 for 5G deployment. Full scale deployement of 5G in the country is expected to start in 2022.

In June 2020, MinTIC had issued six month temporary licenses to Claro Colombia and Movistar to run 5G trials in the 3.6 GHz (n78) band

Claro is conducting 5G trial using the 3.6 GHz band in Medellin, Cali and Barrancabermeja. Movistar, in partnership with Huawei, will also conduct trials in various cities.
