SMPS connectors are 50-ohm RF coaxial connectors that have a frequency range of up to 100 GHz. These connectors are 45% smaller than the SMP connectors and 30% smaller than the SMPM connectors, making the SMPS ideal for applications where density is important. SMPS connectors are blind mate connectors which means they can be mated using a sliding or snapping action and do not require wrenches or other tools to make a proper connection.

The center contact/pin of an SMPS connector is usually made out of Beryllium copper or Gold. The body material of the SMPS connector is usually Beryllium Copper, Stainless Steel or Aluminum. SMPS connectors are available in standard, multi-port, and VITA 67 configurations, in different geometries such as straight & right angle and with different termination styles such as push-on, PCB, end launch, and cable. Different mounting styles of these connectors include PCB, surface mount, edge mount, snap-in, board, and Bulkhead.

SMPS RF coaxial connectors are directly compatible with the G3PO interface. These connectors provide two different levels of retention force: Smooth Bore and Full Detent. The SMPS male connector interface is available with a smooth bore design for easy mating or detent for female retention. The smooth bore design offers a minimum of 500 mating cycles, and the detent design is capable of 100 mating cycles minimum. SMPS connectors allow a small radial and axial misalignment when mating and typically have a VSWR of 1.25:1 from DC to 65 GHz. This connector also has a low interface height making it an excellent choice for board-to-board applications using a bullet design.

SMPS connectors are designed to satisfy the demand for increased package density and reduced weight in microwave systems. This sub-miniature, lightweight, blind-mateable connector solution is ideal for complex high-performance microwave modules and systems where weight is the primary issue. The push-on design of this connector enables use in microwave modules, dense packages and facilitates, rapid assembly and testing. These connectors have the ability to tolerate radial and axial misalignment allowing for multiple engagement/disengagement cycles without degradation in electrical performance.
