NewRadio Selects the LitePoint IQgig-UWB Platform to Validate its Ultra-WideBand (UWB) SoC

LitePoint announced that ultra-wideband (UWB) chip solution provider, NewRadio Technology Co. Ltd. (NRT) has standardized its UWB System-on-Chip (SoC) family based on LitePoint IQgig-UWB™ for design validation of its UWB system on a chip (SoC) series. UWB offers range/positioning capabilities that are expected to be used on all mobile devices and smart homes.

UWB's high-precision, safe ranging function can be used to determine the distance between peer-to-peer devices, at a range of up to 200 metres with centimeter level accuracy. This wireless technology is ideal for a range of applications that require precise positioning such as secure hands-free access control, real-time indoor positioning, or location-based services for smart homes, smart factories, transportation or healthcare.

"The LitePoint team really understands UWB and has the advanced test technology to help us develop the highest quality UWB chips and system solutions,” said ZhenQi Chen, Co-founder and CEO of NewRadio Technology. “Combined with NRT’s deep expertise in UWB positioning and communication technology, I believe this collaboration will promote interoperability between major UWB devices and pave the way to provide seamless user experience with high-quality UWB devices.”

Adam Smith, Director of Product Marketing, LitePoint, said: "Newcore has been at the forefront of UWB development, with a range of chips supporting a wide range of applications. LitePoint's IQgig-UWB provides ultra-accurate intelligent range/positioning and secure communications services that enable NewRadio to develop next-generation UWB devices.”

Technical Details
The Ursa Major (UMAJ) UWB SoC Series from NewRadio Technology provides cm-level precision range/positioning and wireless communication capabilities. With its highly integrated form factor and extremely low power consumption, the UMAJ SoC is ideal for applying UWB technology to 5G smartphones. UMAJ series products can also cover IoT equipment, smart cars, industrial Internet and other applications.

LitePoint's IQgig-UWB test platform is the first fully integrated test solution to calibrate and validate equipment with UWB technology. This test platform performs complete physical layer testing and calibration on devices using UWB technology, including IEEE 802.15.4z. The system uses precise trigger and response mechanisms for time-to-flight (ToF) measurements with picosecond accuracy and supports a wide range of transmitter and receiver tests with a single bandwidth of more than 1 GHz, as well as receiver sensitivity tests below -100 dBm.

LitePoint and NewRadio Technology Co. Ltd. (NRT) are both members of the FiRa Alliance, a member-oriented organization focused on the secure fine range and positioning capabilities of UWB technology.
