Understanding Directivity

Measuring the quality of the impedance match of a test device (VSWR or Return Loss), requires separation of the incident signal from the reflected signal. Separation of the two signals is performed by directional devices and the accuracy of the measurement is determined by the directivity of the directional devices. This application note discusses the use and application of directional devices for impedance measurements and the factors that contribute to reflection measurement uncertainty.
