What is EMC/EMI Shielded Test Enclosure?

An EMC/EMI Shielded Test Enclosure is used to create an isolated and controlled test environment where the EMC testing of electrical & electronic products/devices can be tested and evaluated without interference from external electromagnetic radiation.

A EMC Shielded Test Enclosure is essentially a sealed container made of conductive materials such as copper or aluminum that block electromagnetic signals and prevent them from entering or leaving the enclosure. The purpose of this shielding is to prevent any external signals from interfering with the device under testing (DUT) inside the enclosure and also to ensure that any signals generated in the EMC test area are contained within the enclosure and not leaked outside.

The test enclosure typically includes various input/output ports and connectors, allowing the device under test to be connected to various test equipment and peripherals, while maintaining the necessary shielding. The shielded test enclosures are designed to ensure stable and repeatable measurements over a broad frequency range. Usually, the test enclosure has RF-absorbing foam that deadens standing waves and reflections. 

EMC test is conducted to measure the electromagnetic energy emission limits and to check the ability of the equipment when subjected to radiated electromagnetic fields (intentionally applied). This test is conducted to check whether the electrical & electronic devices comply with the EMC emission & immunity standards.
