GaN RF Device Market to Reach $560 million by 2019

The new market research report from Strategy Analytics predicts that the rise in revenue for Gallium Nitride (GaN) RF devices will grow at a compound average annual growth rate (CAAGR) of more than 20% to exceed $500 million by 2019. This accounts for both  military and commercial applications. According to Strategy Analytics Advanced Semiconductor Applications (ASA) spreadsheet model, forecast and outlook report 'GaN RF Market Update: 2014–2019', the magnitude of RF GaN revenue in wireless infrastructure applications along with variety of other applications will drive the commercial segment and will increase it by more than 50% in next five years. The report further anticipates the rapid growth in the defense sector that will propel that segment to more than half of the RF GaN revenue by 2016 and about 60% market share in 2019.

According to the report, the biggest uptick in commercial adoption in 2014 came from Wireless Infrastructure. Though CATV was one of the first commercial segments to see widescale adoption of GaN, the wireless infrastructure segment will be the largest commercial segment. The GaN is still lower than LDMOS when it comes to wireless infrastructure, however GaN adoption by Chinese LTE deployment in 2014 made infrastructure its largest commercial segment. Military applications are expected to continue to strengthen the opportunities for GaN adoption and should push RF GaN device revenue to nearly $560 million by 2019.
