Akoustis Receives Development Order for Wi-Fi 7 Diplexers Based on its XBAW Technology

Akoustis Technologies, Inc., an integrated device manufacturer (IDM) of patented bulk acoustic wave (BAW) high-band RF filters for mobile and other wireless applications, has announced that it has received a development order from a Fortune 100 Internet company for two new XBAW driven diplexers for multiple applications.

The two new Wi-Fi 7 diplexers are expected to enter pre-production in the second half of calendar 2023 and production in early calendar 2024. Each diplexer will ship with two XBAW RF filters, an Akoustis-designed switch and an integrated third-party antenna in Akoustis’ proprietary new wafer-level packaging that is being developed in its Canandaigua, New York manufacturing facility. The customer is targeting AR/VR, wearable and other applications both regionally and worldwide.

Dave Aichele, EVP of Business Development of Akoustis, stated, “We are experiencing increased interest in our emerging diplexer products as we add multi-chip module capability to our growing portfolio of XBAW filters and new switch designs.” Mr. Aichele, continued, “We expect to see additional design wins moving forward as we continue to solve more challenging problems for our customers through greater product integration.”

Akoustis is currently ramping commercial production and is investing to achieve an annual production capacity of approximately 500 million units. Akoustis is actively delivering volume production of its Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E tandem filter solutions, shipping multiple 5G small cell XBAW filter solutions and delivering initial designs of its new 5G mobile filter solutions to multiple customers. To date, Akoustis has received more than 20 customer design wins for its patented XBAW filter solutions.
