SiTime Corporation, the Precision Timing company, has confirmed that it is in discussions with Renesas Electronics Corporation (“Renesas”) regarding a potential acquisition of Renesas’ timing business.
Assets to be Acquired
Renesas’ timing portfolio includes clock generators, buffers, network synchronizers, jitter cleaners, IEEE 1588 software, and oscillators. The 163-person engineering and field applications engineering (FAE) team is expected to join SiTime, significantly expanding global technical capabilities and market reach.
Business Continuity – No Disruption
Operations will continue without interruption. Orders, deliveries, support, and existing points of contact will remain unchanged. Until transaction close, SiTime and Renesas will continue to operate as independent companies. All commercial, technical, and support discussions related to SiTime products will continue to be handled by the SiTime team. Renesas product engagements will continue through existing Renesas account representatives. Business operations will proceed as usual until close.
Strategic Benefits
This combination is expected to create a comprehensive precision timing solutions provider with the scale, expertise, and focus to address complex timing requirements:
- Complete Solutions Portfolio: End-to-end clock tree solutions, oscillators, clocking ICs, and software from a single timing partner
- Deep Technical Expertise: Addition of Renesas’ timing specialists enhances support across component selection, architecture design, and network synchronization
- Accelerated Innovation and Roadmap: Combined R&D resources and a singular focus on timing enable faster development of higher-performance solutions
- Greater Scale and Capacity: Expanded manufacturing capability and improved supply chain resilience to support volume requirements with increased reliability and flexibility
In addition, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed to explore the integration of SiTime’s MEMS technology into Renesas’ MCU and SoC products, creating further innovation opportunities. Upon transaction close, Renesas CEO Hidetoshi Shibata is expected to join SiTime’s Board of Directors.
Enabling the Future of Precision Timing
Together, SiTime and Renesas bring proven reliability, innovation, and deep timing expertise to support advanced applications including network infrastructure, high-performance computing, robotics, and industrial systems. The combined portfolio and capabilities are designed to deliver precision, performance, and technical depth for next-generation electronics.
Enhanced scale is expected to support increased investment in R&D, faster time-to-market for new solutions, and expanded customer support, with a continued focus on addressing demanding timing requirements.
Next Steps
Between now and transaction close, teams from both companies will engage to support a seamless transition. SiTime and Renesas will remain independent companies until closing, and existing account representatives will continue to manage all business and support matters.
