The AFEVM2Q 275 from Sivers IMA is a 24.5 to 27.5 GHz Beamformer IC for dual-quad core 5G dual-polarized phased antenna array applications. Due to its flexible control interface, scalability and low power dissipation, it is the perfect choice for 5G NR beamforming applications. This RFIC includes two quad antenna connections, each with RX/TX channels, including integrated RX/TX RF switches. It supports both horizontal and vertical polarization MIMO and has unique digital features to allow easy adoption. Time Division Duplex (TDD) mode can be set independently for the horizontal and vertical polarization beamformer.
The gain and phase of the Tx/Rx sections are individually controlled over a high-speed Low-Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS) interface allowing on the fly beam adjustment. Fast beam setting updates for dynamic beam control is useful in a multi-user environment. The AFEVM2Q 275 provides a phase resolution of 5.62 degrees using 6-bit control and 0.5 dB of amplitude resolution control in the Tx and Rx mode. It provides a P1dB of more than 17 dBm at each Tx path. The RFIC has a noise figure of less than 5 dB and a setting rate of less than 10 ns. This RoHS compliant beamforming IC is available in a WL-CSP package with a ball out optimized for connection of the patch antenna with only a few layers.
