The BFx-02 from Copper Mountain Technologies is a frequency extension base unit that operates from 4 to 20 GHz. It is designed to simplify and reduce the cost of S-parameter measurements at mmWave frequencies by eliminating the need for a traditional VNA in frequency extension setups. This extension unit is ideal for several demanding applications, including aerospace and defense, component testing, 5G beamforming, and telecom. It provides all required RF and LO input signals to drive frequency extenders and IF inputs, enabling streamlined processing and reducing points of failure. This unit provides an output power of +20 dBm (RF and LO).
The BFx-02 frequency extension base unit is equipped with a CMT’s S2VNA software that supports multiple features, including linear/logarithmic sweeps with trace formats, time gating, frequency offset, and fixture simulation. The software also displays results across 16 independent channels in a single window, with markers and limit tests for pass/fail criteria. This base unit enables test automation using programming languages such as LabVIEW, Python, and MATLAB. It is available in a module with connectors.
