EMI Feed-through Filter Approved for Space Program

Feed-through filterInstec has announced that it has successfully manufactured and upscreened an EMI feed-through filter to meet the United States Department of Defense specification MIL-PRF-28861. The bolt style, resin sealed, C-circuit filter from the company’s 640 Series will now be used for a US government space program where it will help suppress electromagnetic interference.

The specific part number is Instec 640-102CN. It has a capacitance of 1000 pF, an insertion loss of 8 dB at 10 MHz, 25 dB at 100 MHz and 40 dB at both 1 GHz and 10 GHz. This part requires a DC supply of 100 V at 5 A of DC current and can operate at temperatures from -55°C to +125°C. The 640-102CN is a thread type 8-32 and consists of a silver-plated brass case and silver-plated copper nail head lead.

The mil-spec qualification of this part required rigorous testing of electrical, thermal and mechanical properties. Testing was performed at Gowanda’s in-house environmental lab. This lab is Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime approved (in support of internal product qualifications). Instec is welcoming any queries regarding the upscreening of additional filters for applications in defense, military and space communities. The company also supports custom designs with extensive experience, proprietary manufacturing equipment, prototyping capabilities and testing facilities.
