Anritsu Corporation has enhanced the functionality of its "SmartStudio NR (SSNR)" and "SmartStudio NR IP Performance (SSIP)" software for evaluating the application performance of 5G devices, adding support for 5G RedCap (Reduced Capability) device evaluation. This enables realistic functional evaluation of throughput, power consumption, and other aspects relevant to actual use, targeting low-power, low-cost CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) and wearable devices.
Furthermore, it will support the diversification of frequency bands (bands) that accompanies the expanding use of 5G, and will also provide functions to efficiently test increasingly complex band configurations.
Anritsu will contribute to reducing the burden on engineers developing 5G-compatible devices and improving development efficiency through enhanced SSNR and SSIP functions that can be tested solely through interactive GUI operations, thereby strengthening the foundation that supports a smart society that is connected in real time and seamlessly.
Background of Development
In recent years, with the advancement of new fields such as physical AI, the use of IoT devices has expanded, and the adoption of 5G RedCap-compatible devices, characterized by low power consumption and low cost, is progressing. Consequently, there is a growing need for application evaluations such as IP throughput testing, power consumption measurement, and IMS testing based on the 5G RedCap specification.
Furthermore, in addition to the expanding use of 5G, the number of supported bands is increasing due to the termination of 3G services and the reallocation of frequencies accompanying the spread of 5G SA. As a result, the number of combinations of bands, carrier aggregation, MIMO, etc., is increasing, and test conditions are becoming increasingly complex. This is also increasing the time and effort required for evaluation, and efficient test design and evaluation are needed.
Product overview
SmartStudio NR (SSNR) and SmartStudio NR IP Performance (SSIP) are application testing software that simulates 5G/LTE base stations and core networks when combined with the MT8000A hardware, which has the functionality of a simulated base station. SSIP features throughput measurement capabilities that support high-speed data communication. It does not require advanced protocol knowledge and can be operated intuitively through an interactive GUI.
The main features of this update are as follows:
- It supports 5G RedCap and can perform a variety of application tests, including IP throughput testing, power consumption evaluation, temperature testing, and handover testing.
- The system acquires all supported band combinations of a device, including MIMO configuration and channel bandwidth (ChBW), in a single acquisition. This reduces the burden of test design and planning when comprehensively evaluating a vast and complex array of combinations.
- It also supports tests that are difficult to reproduce on real networks, such as emergency alerts (CMAS) and communication control during disasters (Access Control).
