The SKU 1240 from Empower RF Systems is a Solid-State Power Amplifier (SSPA) that operates from 900 to 1700 MHz. It utilizes a high-power GaN transistor-based linear design for CW, AM, FM, and pulse modulation applications. This class AB amplifier delivers a saturated output power of 200 W, with a small signal gain of 60 to 68 dB and a gain flatness of ±2 dB. It has a gain adjustment range of 15 dB in 0.5 dB steps and a PA enable/disable switching time of less than 1 µs. This SSPA has harmonic levels below -20 dBc and spurious levels below -60 dBc.
The SKU 1240 includes over-temperature, over-voltage, reverse polarity, and over-current protection features, and can withstand full RF output reflection at any phase angle for up to 1 minute at rated power. It requires a DC supply of 44-50 V and draws less than 14 A of current. This amplifier is available as a compact module measuring 7.0 × 4.0 × 1.1 inches and has SMA (female) connectors. It can operate over a temperature range from -40°C to +85°C and is ideal for use in airborne platforms.
