The Space-Rated Ka-Band Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) from Orbital Research operates from 24 to 26 GHz (Tx) and 23 to 31 GHz (Rx). It is designed for CubeSat and SmallSat missions and streamlines RF payload designs by enabling full duplex operation with high spectral purity. This amplifier consists of a low-noise amplifier and a power amplifier in a single low-SWaP enclosure. On the Tx chain, the BDA provides an output P1dB of 27 dBm with a gain of 25 dB, while on the Rx chain, it has a noise figure of less than 3.5 dB.   

The Space-Rated Ka-Band Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) can also be integrated seamlessly with Orbital’s up-down converters to connect phased-arrays, reflectors, or other advanced antenna systems with high efficiency. This amplifier can be configured either as a full duplex or Tx/Rx switch for TDD systems to save power. It requires a DC supply of 12 to 24 V. This BDA is available in a compact space-grade enclosure measuring 80.8 x 70.0 x 11.7 mm and has an SMP (male) connector at the input port and an SMA (female) connector at the output port.
