Richardson RFPD Launches RF Front End Development Kit to Reduce Radio System Development Time

Richardson RFPD, an Arrow Electronics company, has announced the availability and full design support capabilities for RadioCarbon, a standalone RF front end. The RadioCarbon RFFE becomes a development kit when paired with the BytePipe software-defined radio system on the module.

RadioCarbon is designed to dramatically accelerate design efforts, including proof-of-concept, prototyping, and evaluations. The RFFE utilizes Wolfspeed’s GaN-on-SiC technology for a highly efficient and robust transmit channel. The development kit adds NextGen RF Design’s BytePipe SDR SoM, which includes Analog Devices’ ADRV9002, a highly integrated RF transceiver offering dual channel transmitters and dual channel receivers, integrated synthesizers, and digital signal processing functions.

Radiocarbon can accommodate multiple use cases. The standalone RFFE is ideal for integrating a separate radio with digital pre-distortion. The SDR development kit pairs the RFFE with a radio module for a complete SDR with a high-power transmitter and DPD.

Additional benefits include:

  • Functional hardware to quickly prove concepts and develop waveforms,
  • Licensable design files that customers can reuse for product implementation, and
  • Availability of third-party support to create a customized module
