Keysight Technologies has introduced the Infiniium XR8 Benchtop Oscilloscope, designed for high-speed digital validation. The device supports bandwidths from 8 GHz to 33 GHz and has a maximum sample rate of 128 GSa/s. The instrument provides 12-bit vertical resolution (4096 levels). This improves waveform detail and enables detection of small voltage variations that are often hidden in conventional 8-bit systems. Its memory depth extends up to 8 Gpts (giga-points). This allows long-duration signal capture at high sample rates, helping engineers identify intermittent faults and rare events.
Infiniium XR8 features a low noise floor of approximately 130 µV. Reduced internal noise helps ensure that observed signal artifacts originate from the device under test rather than the measurement system. A jitter floor of about 13 femtoseconds (fs) supports precise timing analysis. This is important for evaluating clock stability and timing margins in high-speed digital designs.
The device uses an integrated architecture combining front-end circuitry, analog-to-digital conversion, and digital signal processing. This design reduces signal distortion and improves measurement fidelity compared to more discrete implementations. It includes 4 analog channels, enabling simultaneous observation of multiple signals, like differential pairs or clock and data relationships. It is designed for applications that require accurate amplitude and timing measurements, including DDR5, USB4, and high-speed serial interfaces operating at tens of gigabits per second.
Software on the platform supports automated analysis, including jitter characterization and protocol-specific testing, with processing improvements of up to 3× faster analysis. This reduces manual effort and helps engineers interpret complex signal behavior more efficiently.
