The ST64UWB-A500 from STMicroelectronics is an automotive-qualified ultra-wideband (UWB) ranging and radar IC that operates from 6489.6 to 8985.6 MHz. Designed for advanced in-vehicle sensing and secure localization, it supports applications such as CCC Digital Key (phase 3), car key inside/outside detection, child presence detection, gesture-based kick sensors, and multi-target radar sensing. The device combines high-performance UWB ranging with radar capabilities to deliver extended ranging (up to 8× improvement) and high spatial resolution, enabling reliable operation even in non-line-of-sight conditions.
The IC is compliant with IEEE 802.15.4ab and 802.15.4z standards and supports CCC and ICCE automotive specifications. It uses narrowband-assisted multi-millisecond ranging technology and supports both BPRF and HPRF modulation schemes for enhanced accuracy and robustness. Fabricated using 18 nm FDSOI technology, it integrates a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M85 processor (up to 256 MHz), a UWB/narrowband-assisted radio, cryptographic module, power management, and multiple interfaces including SPI, I²C, FDCAN, USART, and LPUART. The device incorporates advanced security features such as Arm TrustZone and complies with SESIP Level 3, along with automotive standards including AEC-Q100 Grade 2, ISO 26262 (ASIL-A), and ISO 21434. It is available in a thermally enhanced HWQFN40 package with wettable flanks, measuring 6.0 × 6.0 × 0.5 mm.
