The SKY5A2105 from Skyworks is an Automotive-Grade Front-End Module (FEM) that operates from 5.855 to 5.925 GHz. It consists of a 5.9 GHz single-pole, quad throw (SP4T) switch, low noise amplifier (LNA), power amplifier (PA), a bandpass BAW filter (BPF), and a digital step attenuator (DSA). This AEC-Q104 Grade 2-qualified FEM also includes a logarithmic power detector to provide closed-loop power control over a dynamic range of more than 25 dB. It primarily supports 2 modes of operation – dual compensator and ECU. The BAW bypass state and high gain state in the TX and RX mode extend the dynamic range in compensator mode. In the OFF mode, both the LNA and PA functions are disabled to ensure low leakage current. 

The SKY5A2105 has a built-in temperature sensor to allow system implementation of reliability and safety algorithms. This front-end module has a MODE control pin that supports either the compensator or ECU mode. In the compensator mode, a digital SPI interface controls the DSA while in the ECU mode, a GPIO interface controls the DSA. This module delivers an output power of +29 dBm (for C-V2X) and +26 dBm (for 802.11p DSRC). It is available in a land grid array (LGA) package that measures 3 x 5 mm. This FEM is ideal for C-V2X (LTE and 5G NR) and 802.11p DSRC applications.
