The NBS Series from Maury Microwave are Cryogenic Noise Standards that operate from 18 to 500 GHz. They are designed for accurate noise calibration, low noise figure measurements, radiometer testing, and LNA characterization. These noise standards are based on fundamental thermal noise and blackbody radiation principles and serve as inherently broadband primary noise standards, eliminating the need for annual single-frequency calibrations. They are designed with flow paths that direct liquid nitrogen boil-off to purge air, moisture vapour, and carbon dioxide from the microwave cavity, eliminating the need for costly and hazardous helium-based equipment.
The NBS Series noise standards provide a noise temperature of up to 76.22 K and a temperature accuracy better than +2.43/-3.57 K. They are available with integrated instrumentation, including a precision barometer, thermometer, low-loss switch, and an optional ambient-temperature termination to enhance measurement accuracy. These primary noise standards are available in modules with multiple waveguide sizes.
