Renesas has introduced the PTX205R, an NFC reader integrated circuit (IC) designed to simplify the integration of Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality into compact connected devices. The IC incorporates Renesas' patented Switched-Cap Power Amplifier (SCPA) architecture, enabling direct antenna connection while reducing antenna tuning complexity, minimizing spurious emissions, and supporting compact antenna designs with fewer external components.
The PTX205R also features a Split Stack software architecture that offloads time-critical NFC operations to an on-chip microcontroller, reducing the processing burden on the host MCU while maintaining real-time performance and interoperability across NFC ecosystems. The device is intended for applications including smart locks, Matter hubs, authentication systems, medical readers, industrial equipment, and consumer electronics.
