Junkosha Introduces mmWave Coaxial Cable Assembly for Accurate and Repeatable Measurements up to 167 GHz

Interconnect manufacturer, Junkosha, has introduced the new MWX009 Microwave/mmWave Coaxial Cable Assembly that has been developed to support a wider range of probe system applications as the industry transitions toward higher-frequency testing infrastructure. Designed to meet probe system measurement requirements, the MWX009 cable is compatible with 0.5 mm and 0.8 mm connector interfaces, addressing evolving requirements in high-frequency test environments.

As demand for data bandwidth drives communication research into the D-band, systems require specialized D-band probe stations and vector network analyzers (VNAs) capable of characterizing channel behavior and antenna modules at extremely high frequencies. As such, engineers have been seeking cable solutions that maintain signal integrity for higher-frequency probe setups beyond the widely adopted 145 GHz, which can provide measurements for testing and validation.

The MWX009 is intended to address these requirements, supporting emerging 0.5 mm and 0.8 mm interface requirements and enabling operation up to 190 GHz and 167 GHz, respectively. The cable offers low insertion loss performance and low return loss, a specification indicating electrical performance enabled by Junkosha’s custom expanded PTFE dielectric layer technology. It also features a secure safety-lock connector for improved connection stability. For sub-THz communication research and development pushing toward higher frequencies, the new cable has enabled access to frequency ranges beyond 145 GHz.

“The massive bandwidths available in this range are crucial for future technologies, but they create strict measurement and testing challenges,” explains Tomohiro Ogawa, Product Manager for Junkosha. “Without equipment that can reliably enable efficient and accurate measurement, comprehensive research and testing, and validation becomes more difficult and time-consuming. This launch represents Junkosha’s strategic role in enabling technologies for advanced mmWave in near maximum frequency D-band measurement environments.”

In addition to the MWX009, the company had showcased its MWX0A5 cable. Developed in collaboration with Keysight Technologies, it maintains low return loss across the full frequency range up to 250 GHz, indicating reduced signal reflection and transmission performance. The MWX0A5 achieves low insertion loss, reaching –7 dB at 250 GHz for a 6-inch (152 mm) length, as well as a proprietary safety-lock connector for secure and repeatable connections.

The company showcased these products at this year’s IEEE International MTT Symposia (IMS) in Boston earlier this month.
