Ampleon Introduces New 800 W RF LDMOS Transistors for Harsh Operating Conditions

Ampleon has announced the release of its latest high-power RF transistor, the ART800PE(G), built on the company’s Advanced Rugged Technology (ART). Designed to withstand the harshest operating conditions, the ART800PE(G) offers 800 W of output power, operates at a 65 V power supply, and supports frequencies up to 450 MHz. Housed in a cost-effective, low thermal resistance OMP780 over-molded plastic package, this new device is available in both straight lead and gull-wing configurations.

Engineered for maximum ruggedness and performance, the ART800PE(G) is specifically developed for industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) applications such as CO2 laser drivers, plasma generators, and MRI systems - environments known for extreme load mismatches. With an impressive voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) tolerance of 65:1 at 65 V, the device remains reliable and durable even under severe operating conditions, eliminating the need for isolators to protect the transistor.

The ART800PE(G) features a high breakdown voltage of over 200 V, providing a large safety margin and enabling higher-class amplifiers like Class-E while maintaining exceptional reliability. Its unmatched ruggedness ensures reliable operation under extreme mismatch conditions without degradation, supporting long product lifetimes in demanding ISM environments. With a combination of high output power and high efficiency, the transistor simplifies thermal design, reduces power dissipation, and minimizes overall system size and operating costs.

The optimized LDMOS technology provides higher output impedance, making it easier to match, improving production consistency, and enabling high power density - all within a smaller, lower-cost package. The dedicated OMP780 plastic package is designed to withstand repeated system on/off switching cycles without failure, making it ideal for industrial applications requiring long-term durability. The package’s low thermal resistance, coupled with the transistor’s high efficiency, supports compact, straightforward cooling designs.

The ART800PE(G) targets a wide range of applications and markets. In the industrial sector, it supports CO2 lasers, plasma generators, and high-precision semiconductor processing equipment. For scientific applications, it serves research equipment and high-power RF supplies. In the medical field, it is ideal for MRI systems and advanced healthcare technologies. It also supports broadcast applications such as FM and VHF TV transmitters.

With its 800 W power output in a compact, cost-effective plastic package and industry-leading ruggedness, the ART800PE(G) sets a new benchmark in RF power technology. Ampleon’s proprietary Advanced Rugged Technology (ART) ensures exceptional performance and reliability, making it an essential solution for system designers working in the harshest RF environments.

The ART800PE(G) is now in mass production and available through Ampleon’s global distribution partners.
