nRF7000 Image

The nRF7000 from Nordic Semiconductor is a Wi-Fi 6 Companion IC that operates in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. It is specifically designed for SSID-based Wi-Fi positioning. This IC complies with the 802.11b/g/n/ax protocols and also has coexistence interfaces to support Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). The companion IC excels in active and passive scanning of Wi-Fi access points, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of Wi-Fi networks and enabling precise positioning with location awareness. It does not provide direct Wi-Fi communication for internet connectivity and therefore, can be combined with Nordic’s nRF91 Series cellular SiPs to provide GNSS, cell-based, and SSID-based Wi-Fi positioning.

The nRF7000 can also be integrated with non-Nordic host devices to support extended functionalities. This Wi-Fi 6 companion IC is fully compatible with Nordic’s nRF Connect SDK, a software development kit that provides a range of tools and libraries to seamlessly incorporate SSID-based Wi-Fi positioning into the user’s products. The integration will help developers augment their IoT applications with accurate positioning and location-awareness features. This IC can be controlled through SPI/QSPI interfaces. It is available in a QFN package and is ideal for smart city/agriculture, industrial sensors, and asset-tracking applications.
